If your preschooler is already in a childcare program or has in-home care, you might wonder why you should consider Camp Montessori.
How about Africa? Antarctica? Europe? Asia? This year's summer-long theme is geography, and the preschoolers will journey each week to a new and exotic locale. They will prepare and taste food from that region, work with maps, sing songs, and play with color and form through art and craft projects.
No matter what the week's focus, they will run through the sprinkler, laugh with new friends, draw pictures to illustrate their own stories (faithfully transcribed by the teachers and counselors), care for classroom pets, dig in the garden and watch their plants grow, hike on our nature trail to learn about native flora and fauna, work on their motor skills in the gymnasium and on the soccer field with our Sports & Games teacher, blow bubbles, picnic under a shady tree, and listen to stories as they drift off to nap after lunch.
Our unique Montessori materials are designed to pique children's curiosity, guiding them to a deep understanding of language and mathematics while they play. Certified teachers, assistant teachers, and camp counselors have time to get to know the children as individuals, celebrate their strengths and nurture their growth.
The social curriculum is an essential part of our program, as well: helping children learn how to make a friend, how to be a friend, and how to navigate the world of other humans with grace, courtesy, and appropriate assertiveness. We work and play together, but we also respect our friends' personal space and any work that they might be concentrating on. We learn independence and interdependence, and we have a great time doing it.
